Quality does not magically appear in products that have already been made. It cannot be inspected into a part; instead, quality begins during the initial design of the product and must be successfully built into it. To ensure a high level of product quality, we develop processes that seek to eliminate as much variation as possible and identify defects the moment they are added to a part. This is true for processes owned by every function of the business as production touches each and every department. The final product that emerges from D&R is the result of the successful contribution of all of our people and processes; consequently, quality becomes the responsibility of everyone within the organization. Even though we have a “Quality Department”, it is not meant to imply that they alone own quality. Quality is owned by each and every employee engaged in any process that supports our business.
